Subject: Recreation project with the Humber Management Scheme
Hi Carolyn
Thank you very much for your phone call and thank you for your help. We are working on a project commissioned by a partnership and guided by the Humber Management Scheme. The aim of the overall project is to collect information on how many people use the estuary and the types of recreational activities (bird watching, angling, dog walking, wildfowling, kite surfing etc.) which occur to understand if recreation could potentially be causing disturbance to the birds who use the estuary to overwinter.
We have been undertaking face to face visitor surveys over this winter at 20 different survey locations. This visitor survey work does not lend itself to capturing information from sailing clubs. I was wondering whether you would be happy to distribute an on-line survey to your members or post a link to it on the club website. It would contains 17 simple questions asking about recreational use of the estuary and is anonymous, unless you choose to provide an email address. I am keen to make sure that the recreational patterns of the sailing community are represented in the project – I also understand that most sailing happens over the milder months (my dad is an active member of Poole yacht club) and it would be great to have the physical data to support this.
I contacted Mark in the first instance as I understand he has been in contact with Tania Davey the project manager and may have been involved with the Humber Advisory Group and mentioned he could help with distributing questionnaire around the marina.
If you would like to chat about the project or more about the survey then please do call us. I am also making contact with other clubs and marina’s to ask whether they too would be happy to send out a link survey link to their members if you are able to supply any contacts that would be great too.
Here’s a link to the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JPM78Y9
Further details of the recreation project can be found here http://www.humberems.co.uk/projects/recreation.php.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a relaxing Christmas break.
Many thanks and kind regards
Helen
