Glasson Lock - Customer Information Update 2
A meeting has been held today with British Waterways regarding the current closure of the lock and if or when the lock can be opened.
A short term solution has been agreed to minimise the impact of the manual handling operation relating to the opening and closing of the lock gates. Works are being undertaken to have new components manufactured so that the winch mechanism can be operated by 2 men in tandem.
Work is proposed to commence tomorrow (Tuesday 14 June 2011) with the old parts being taken away and new component’s manufactured, every effort is being made to try and get the replacement parts installed ready for opening the lock up at the weekend.
British Waterways are looking in to the longer term problems with the lock operations in due course, but this temporary solution will ensure that the lock can be operated in the short term. We will communicate with customers to explain British Waterways long term solutions as soon as they are available to us and endeavour to address customers concerns and difficulties.
When the lock is operational British Waterways have indicated at this time that they will be able to operate 2 lock penning’s per high tide. To assist customers to depart the marina I would suggest that we have a booking in system that indicates a proposed departure. This needs to be on a priority basis and bookings can be made in the office.
I would like to apologise for any inconvenience that the lock closure may cause you but please be assured BWML are working with British Waterways to obtain a quick resolution to this matter.
