Kings Marina Local Information
Belvoir Castle (12 miles)
Belvoir Castle has existed in various incarnations since Norman times. The current fortification is the 4th to occupy the site since then. Earlier castles were destroyed by historical events including The Civil War and The Wars of the Roses. The one thing which has remained constant throughout is the castle’s status of ancestral home to the Duke and Duchess of Rutland – a role it’s played for over 1,000 years, right up to the present day.Given a history that stretches back so far, there’s a great range of periods to experience here. The castle also houses the Queen’s Royal Lancers Museum.

Doddington Hall and Gardens (11 miles)
You can stroll along enchanting paths discovering trees, bulbs, feature gardens and even a maze of turf at Doddington Hall. The walled gardens that surround the hall stretch to some 5 acres. You’ll find a kitchen garden, topiary, borders, fountains and more as you follow the various paths. The Hall welcomes private group visits, both from schools and from special-interest groups. For schools there’s an engaging School Project visit itinerary, supported by comprehensive notes and worksheets. Owned by the same family for more than 400 years, the Hall itself is a Georgian construction with a fine, elegant interior. Here you’ll find furniture, porcelain and pictures from across the years.

Lincoln Castle (15 miles)
Lincoln Castle houses the Magna Carta. It’s fitting that a Castle of such prominence should be chosen to house this pivotal document. The document itself is supported by an exhibition that details how it came into being and why it was such an important agreement. Just two years after the Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror started work on Lincoln Castle. As is often the case, the site itself had seen various constructions through the years prior to this. The castle has seen its share of conflict, and has been used as a court and prison for almost 1,000 years.

The museum has a strong presence in the community through its Friends and Volunteer Groups. In addition to these Victorian facilities, there are also temporary exhibitions staged focussing on subjects as diverse as photography, art and design.

Usher Gallery (15 miles)
With decorative and fine art collections, the Usher Gallery was founded in 1927 and offers a rich cultural experience to visitors. It was a decorative art bequest that created the gallery initially. This James Ward Usher Bequest represented an outstanding collection. That collection has been added to over the years, augmenting the original porcelain, clocks, watches, miniatures, silver and enamels with glass costume and pottery. The fine art collection includes pieces from the 1600s through to the present day. The work comprises both paintings & sketches and sculpture work. Many of the subjects of these exhibits are closely connected to Lincolnshire and its people.
