Suggested Cruises from Victoria Basin
Exploring from Gloucester's Historic Docks
From the heart of the historic Gloucester Docks you can enjoy a lock free cruise along the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, originally built as a ship canal as a safe bypass for shipping on the River Severn.
The canal is 16 miles long and takes you through some beautiful rural Gloucestershire countryside and at times within a stones throw of the tidal River Severn and the Forest of Dean beyond. The canal terminates at Sharpness dock yard, from where if you are brave enough you can venture out (with a pilot) down river to Avonmouth and to Bristol.
Heading north from Gloucester Docks you can reach the historic town of Tewkesbury, the City of Worcester and Stourport on Severn. There are further cruising options from Tewkesbury where you can join the Lower Avon; from Worcester where you can join the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, which will take you into the centre of Birmingham at Gas Street Basin and the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal at Stourport which will take you to Great Hayward Junction where the canal joins the Shropshire Union.
